I am senior student running toward the end of my college life and thus I have to write a senior thesis. Although I am a business major, because I went to Washington State University to study criminology, I really wanted to write something related to criminology.
Then I came up with the Federal Prison Industries.
Federal Prison Industries, so-called Unicor, is a federal wholly owned company under the Bureau of Prison in Department of Justice. The company say their aim is to provide inmates opportunities to nurture work skills and a little bit of wages so that they would be more likely to sustain their lives without recidivism.
However, I do not easily believe that such a company is able to achieve goals without facing difficulties. For example, If you take a look at financial report of the company, Unicor continues to make losses in electrics devision for several years.
I am currently working on the estimated effectiveness against recidivism of the Unicor program. Because the resource of the company is scarce, actually I am facing some difficulties. :-( Though I tried to contact people inside of it, they seemed somehow reluctant to reply.
If any of visitors know who to ask about the company, I sincerely appreciate if you leave comments below. I am looking forward to know the truth.
